PACE17, recap – part 6, Point Loma

2017-PA-oil-CA-DEEB-Sailing, Point Loma

Our last day at PACE17, San Diego began with a beautiful sunrise.

San Diego morning, from the hotel, looking east .
I rode the elevator up to the 11th floor by mistake — this was the awesome view from up there!
I just love all these boats with their masts and reflections!

Our final day of the Plein Air Convention was an all-paint day, and we spent it at the Cabrillo National Monument on Point Loma. What a fabulous place — with the bay on one side, the ocean on the other, a lighthouse, the cityscape, and all the interesting flora and fauna — there was endless painting potential here!

I took some time to explore, first at the upper portion…

Painters line the sidewalks and trails on the upper part of Point Loma.
This painter found herself a quieter spot.

I saw a few of these interesting and rather bold lizards as I hiked around the area.
Cactus and the ocean view from atop a cliff.

The view on the clifftop looking west toward the Pacific Ocean was breathtaking, the breeze was refreshing and invigorating too — the perfect spot to paint!

My first painting of the day, starting small with an 8 x 6″.
A second one from the same spot.

Then I went down to the lower part, still facing west toward the ocean. Along the way I ran into my friend Kathleen Reilly, whom I know from Osmosis Gallery in Niwot, Colorado. She seemed to be having a great time!

Painters enjoying the setting all along the rocky shore.

Pelicans frequently flew over us in formation.

Getting bigger now, at 11 x 14′ this was the first painting I did next to the shore. The waves were so exciting!
My last quick piece of the day, 6 x 12″ just the feel of the waves and the rocks and sky — fantastic!
Interesting rock formations behind where I was standing.

Back at the hotel, I couldn’t resist painting this beautiful California sunset from my balcony to bring this unforgettable day to a close.
